Answer
Housing, and in particular the role and regulation of the Private Rented Sector, is one of my priorities. My Department’s consultation exercise on proposals for change to the role and regulation of the private rented sector ended on 3 April 2017. The Department is currently carrying out a comprehensive review of the role and regulation of the private rented sector to ensure the regulatory framework and supporting policy improve standards for the benefit of both tenants and landlords. The areas being reviewed include:
Supply
Affordability
Security of tenure
Tenancy management
Property standards
Dispute resolution
I am currently considering how to take forward the recommendations in that review, and what other measures may be necessary.
