Answer
Carers Registers are maintained by the Health and Social Care Trusts which carers can voluntarily choose to join. These Registers are primarily a means of sharing information and advice with carers and for supporting carers through networks and activities.
I previously expressed my wish to examine the possibility of developing a more robust central register when pressures allow. Under the Reform of Adult Social care officials will be bringing forward proposals for my consideration prior to a public consultation before the end of the year. Proposals to support carers will include consideration of a carers register.
