Answer
(i) The Social Fund Funeral Expenses Payments scheme makes a contribution towards a funeral. It meets the reasonable necessary costs of a cremation or burial including the purchase of a grave with exclusive burial.
(a) While there is no formal planned review of the scheme, my Department monitors the existing policy/ legislation. (b) There is no specific frequency for this work.
(ii) In relation to any increase of the payment the amount allowed for other funeral expenses had been capped at £700, however in April 2020, my Department increased this cap from £700 to £1000. Any further increases would break parity with the Department for Work and Pensions and require Executive approval.
