Answer

Requests or proposals for Controlled Crossing facilities are assessed against the criteria and assessment procedure set out under our current policy RSPPG E005 (Controlled Crossings: Assessment Procedures) which can be viewed at: https://www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/sites/default/files/publications/infrastructure/controlled-crossings-assessment-procedures-rsppg-e005v6.pdf

My officials undertook a pedestrian survey at Ballynahinch Primary School in February 2024, using the criteria set out in policy document: RSPPG E005. Following a second stage assessment, I am pleased to advise that this location has been added to our list for pedestrian crossings in the Ards, North Down and Down areas. Unfortunately, however, due to constrained resources, the scheme does not score highly enough to be included on our planned programme for 2024/25 but will be considered for inclusion in future works programmes, subject to available resources.
