Answer
Following the election, I had introductory meetings with both the Chief Secretary to Treasury and the Chancellor of the Exchequer in mid-July. Then, along with the First and Deputy First Minister I met with the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 12 September to discuss the 2024-25 financial position, including a request for early clarification of any additional Barnett consequentials for 2024-25.
Together with the Devolved Administration Finance Ministers I met with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury most recently at the Finance: Interministerial Finance Committee on 03 October, where I took the opportunity to highlight the need to invest in public services, infrastructure and public sector workers following years of Tory austerity and I also raised the fiscal rules, particularly in respect of investment in infrastructure.
Given the wider message on public finances socialised by the British Government, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury indicated that the new Labour Government were undertaking a wide ranging review on public finances in advance of decisions for the Autumn Budget due on 30 October.
