Answer
This issue is an operational matter for the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (the Commission). I have sought the requested information from the Commission, which has advised:
‘There are currently no recognised section 167 charities for the purposes of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 as this legislative provision has yet to be commenced.
The Commission’s list of “section 167s” (last updated on 24 December 2024) details the 661 organisations which are established outside of Northern Ireland, but which have indicated they operate for charitable purposes in or from Northern Ireland and wish to register here. There may also be other organisations operating in Northern Ireland which fall under this category, but which have not made themselves known.’
For any future queries relating to operational matters, you may wish to contact the Commission directly. Making direct contact with the Commission will ensure that you receive the information in the shortest possible timeframe and make best use of public resources. A list of section 167 organisations is published on the Charity Commission’s website.
