Answer
A carer is defined as someone who provides regular and substantial care on an informal (unpaid) basis. Health and Social Care Trusts hold a database, the ‘Carer Register’, which is a mailing list of any informal, unpaid carer who has opted for their name and details to be kept on this Register. Carers can request to have their details removed at any time.
These registers are primarily a means of sharing information and advice with carers and for supporting carers through networks and activities. The breakdown for each Trust is noted below to reflect registered numbers in December 2024. Please consider that there will have been some expected fluctuation as carers join and leave the registers and current registered numbers may therefore be different.
