Answer

The Executive Housing Supply Strategy sets the 15-year framework for the action required to address the whole system issues impacting on housing supply here and to ensure that everyone has access to a good quality, affordable and sustainable home.

As part of the implementation of the Strategy, the Executive has recently approved the first 3-year Action Plan detailing initial actions which Departments will take forward, and I intend to publish this shortly.

Alongside this wider strategic work, I continue to deliver specific actions to improve supply and access to, affordable housing. This includes pressing for more funding to deliver social housing for those most in need, resulting in a record £210 million allocated to the Social Housing Development Programme in 2025–26. There are now more than 6,000 social houses on site across Northern Ireland.

In expanding access to a wider range of affordable options, I recently announced a £61.5 million Financial Transactions Capital loan investment, in partnership with housing provider Maple and May, to deliver the first 300 highquality, long term affordable rent homes at a 20% discount on market rents aimed at lower income households.

In addition, last year I announced £153 million of Financial Transactions Capital funding to Co-Ownership to support 4,000 households to buy their own home over the next four years. This will provide an affordable route into home ownership for those who would otherwise be unable to purchase their own home.
